1 – Sports Project

The Friends realize that the Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) needs updating and as many children have previously asked us to install permanent football/basketball/netball nets we are pleased to say we have now managed to acquire funding up to £40,000

April 17 We heard from the United Utilities Lancashire Community Fund with an offer of a £20,000 grant providing we can raise the rest within six months, so full steam ahead folks!

May 2017 The Friends have been awarded £2,000 to be spent on the MUGA project within 12 months.

September 2017 The £15,000 award from Sport England has been formally confirmed and will be awarded to the Council who will be working in partnership with the Friends to complete this project. This part of the award has a six month condition so must be spent before the end of March.

2018 With more fund raising by the Friends and a local promise of £1,000 jointly from the Highfield Councillors we have reached our target and look forward to having the new MUGA installed by May 2018.

2 – Table Tennis Project

The council has offered the chance to have a permanent outdoor Table installed for visitors to play Table Tennis as part of a forthcoming  project called PING in Blackpool.  The project would cost £2,500 and include the following;

One semi-permanent outdoor table supplied, erected and fitted securely to the ground outdoor

Adequate supply of balls for each day of the 6 week festival starting from June 14th 2017 and beyond. Plus extra bats.

Training for 4 volunteers/staff  to facilitate TT activity and awareness of other activity.

Delivery and inclusion on the 6 week PING festival including all PR within dedicated website and social media etc.:

  • December 2017 – Well the great news is that not only have we raised £200 from the Asda Community Fund but Beaverbrook’s the Jewellers have said they will fund the project to install the Table for Table Tennis and the coaching costs involved to run this project so we will be looking forward to a Super Summer.  The base for the Table will be laid at the same time as the new MUGA and Tennis surface are laid hopefully in April.

3 – Pavilion Project

The refurbishment work is now finished with help from the Community Payback Team, materials supplied for the first phase by Blackpool Council Parks Department and local merchants; Chadwick’s who supplied materials for the second phase of this work. The inside of the Pavilion is looking amazing and a lot fresher. It is great being able to use our newly refurbished building which wouldn’t have been possible with out the help of all those involved especially the Community Payback Team and Chadwick’s. Huge Thanks to all concerned.

We do not currently have any heat or water supplies but this will be the next phase of the work.  However we are currently looking for help/funding with this next phase. If you know anyone who can help, please ask them to get in touch with the Friends Secretary.

In the meantime we hope it will be used by the local community including the Park’s Crown Green Bowling Team, Park Committee Meetings for the Adults and the Youth Committee, local school children to study and many others. Fortunately we do have access to utilities in the Bowlers Hut that we can use if the pavilion is in use. We look forward to showing everyone the new improvements.
